WHY DO I NEED A PIGGING SYSTEM?

The HPS Pigging System is used to RECOVER PRODUCT from the pipeline, once the pump has emptied the holding tank, or, the decision is made to stop that particular run.

The HPS Pigging Systems is also used to clear any water that remains in the pipeline, after sterilizations, CIP or Water flush.  This Removes product/water interface when running the next batch of product.

Filling the residual product into final package drastically REDUCES EFFLUENT.  Cleaning a pigged line also requires less water and time.

WHAT IS A PIG?

A Pig is the object, which pushes the product or water through the pipeline.

The Patented HPS Pig is manufactured from food grade silicon materials, which are tough yet flexible.  The Pig will withstand temperatures up to 200 degrees C without significant expansion or degradation, enabling it to be steam cleaned if required.

WHY IS IT CALLED A PIG?

The name comes from the oil industry, where metal discs connected by a rod were propelled through the oil pipelines, to remove the build up of paraffin wax on the internal wall of the pipe.  The action of metal on metal made a squealing noise like a pig.  The name stuck!!

HOW DO WE DETECT THE PIG IN THE PIPE?

The Patented HPS Pig has special properties which enables it to be magnetised.  Specially designed detectors are used to detect the pig at either end of the line.  These detectors are non-intrusive to the product lines and can detect the Pig's magnetic field through the stainless steel pipe.

WILL THE PIG TRAVEL THROUGH OUR BENDS?

The short answer is YES.  The flexible nature of our Pig allows it to negotiate the tightest 90 degree bend as well as S-bends and 180 degree U-bends.  This can be achieved at relatively low pressures.

WHAT IF A PIG GETS STUCK?

HPS Pigs do not get stuck in the line.  There is always a logical reason for the pig stopping in the pipeline.  Some possible reasons could be no propellant pressure, loose coupling releasing propellant behind pig, valve closed in front of pig.
